~ Zamacona y Nuñez on the gyaa-yothn |
The Gyaa-yothn (singular: Gyaa-yoth) are a species created by H. P. Lovecraft for the novella The Mound.
Description[]
The Gyaa-yothn are unnatural hybrids created by the men of the K'n-yan city of Tsath to act as horse-like mounts and perform physical labour. These quadrupeds combine aspects of reptiles and mammals. They have pale skin with black fur on their backs, a single horn on their heads, and vaguely humanoid faces. Though carnivorous, they're considered to be harmless.
Creation[]
The Gyaa-yothn are the result of forcibly breeding the defeated races of K'n-yan with the creatures discovered in Yoth.
Despite the similarities of their names, it's not known whether they're related to the Gyaa-Hua.
Purpose[]
They are used in a similar way to horses in the world above, for transport or pulling ploughs. However, in the former case, they can be ridden without saddles or guidance with a clumsy but regular pace. They are also capable of almost human farmwork.
