John Taggart is a fictional character created by Richard L. Tierney, a time traveller who works both for and against alien forces inimical to humanity.
Taggart is Tierney's first series hero, created when the author was still a teenager; he first emerged as a villain in Tierney's story "The Howler in the Dark," published in 1984 but written much earlier. Taggart's first appearance in print was in Tierney's 1975 novel The Winds of Zarr. The character was subsequently featured in several short stories, as well as in the 2008 cross-over novel The Drums of Chaos, where Taggart joins forces with Simon of Gitta.
