  • Hello LoreDudeRoth,

you did upload many pictures, without a description of the licensing, like Hastur.jpg and MH2.jpg. I would appreciate to receive the permission to use this pictures for the german lovecraft wiki, with naming the source.

    • I'm a little unclear on what you're asking. According to the wikia "fandom" group, nearly any image can be used on the wikia sites and qualify as fair use. We try to credit everything but there are still many images that haven't been annotated with their source.

So long as your Lovecraft site is maintained in the wikia community, you should be fine to use those images, although I have sourced them now.

    • Thank you.

I am just carefully, when I spread images.

  • hello,

it is possible to use the fantastic cthulhu picture for a little french fanzine? the picture is going to be change for fun. thank you :)

  • Hello, I added some pages on table-top games and put them under "Cthulhu Mythos role-playing games" category (because previously existing Call of Cthulhu (Role-Playing Game) page was categorised as such), however, I noticed that the main page links to a catgory called just "Role-Playing Games". The same thing  with "Board game" (actual category that has pages in it) and "Board games" (an empty category that was linked from the main page).

    • The Categories should properly be "Role-playing games" and "Board games". These are broader topics that might include games that include Lovecraft mythos components (like D&D) but not actually be in the Mythos RPG subcategory like CoC, Delta Green, etc. If you can help organize that content accordingly that would be very appreciated.

Thats the reason why we had to rule that it was not a copy right issue but instead a fair use issue. becasue although fanart is not copy righted the wikia's still need permission from the artists. At least we agreed on that point and now things are moving along. Promethius20 (talk) 13:09, July 23, 2016 (UTC)

Wikia just do it to satisfy but if they see a case of "Not copyrighted" they will laugh and leave.

    • Beyonder and Prometheus, this situation has been resolved. None of us are legal experts and can not speak from any position of authority regarding the legal status of any particular work. Wikia has made the case that our fair use of material is covered legally. That is the primary concern that has been resolved.

To further discuss or make claims regarding U.S. copyright law, which is an extremely complex and legally ambiguous issue that remains the subject of many ongoing suits, only welcomes criticism of our work.

Moving forward, I would most appreciate it if none of us take the position to affirm nor deny the copyright status of any work we use. I recommend should assert our fair use, attribute, link when possible, and reach out to form direct relationships with artists we think would be of value to our community. It is important that we represent and affirm the position of the wiki and the wikia community, and not editorialize or express our personal feelings on this issue.

I encourage you to help me in attributing work to the creators that put in the time and effort to create that specific artistic work: this is to say the fan artist. I believe it is to be assumed and understood that these images are derived from the work of H.P. Lovecraft and the associated mythos authors. If you don't choose to do that Beyonder, I cannot force you to do so, but I believe it is a courtesy we owe creative people. This is a matter of courtesy, not technicality. If you choose to specify in the citation the source of the derivation, that is appropriate and appreciated. After all, your contributions to the wiki are credited to you, while they are derivative of other's content. That is a value that wiki is founded on, work should be attributed to the contributor no matter how small.

Ultimately, I do not ask you to agree with me on all of these topics. But I do ask you to respect this as a position that benefits the community in the most general sense and protects us from unnecessary expenditures of time and effort in addressing this issue in the future.

I continue to value the contributions of both of you and know how hard both of you work. I appreciate your engagement and enthusiasm and hope it can just be freed up now that this issue has been addressed.

      Thank you again.

  • It does seem the page for Elysia has been "edited", the only thing on it now is: "ELYSIA IS ELSA LET IT GO AND FSCK U"

Can this be reversed in any way?

    • I too am not knowledgeable about both meanings of Elysia, so I guess we'll have to let other people write those.

Is there any way we could ask people to do it? Something in the front page or anything like that?

    • ok then Naommac, its unanimus, there needs to be pages talking about topics named Elysia. If i was to find information about a Elysia novel i would go over to the Wikipedia and see what they got on the Elysia Novel. as far as Elysia Location, we can go to wikipedia to find information about the novel and read as much on it as we can and add to that page. As far as right now all we know about the Elysia Location is that its a place that has something to do with the Elder Gods and it was a location where a Crystal Cave can be found. we are still not sure what class of location it would be, is it a Country, a Countinent or a planet. Another thing to note is another user on here put down is its a place where the elder gods live, so its also possible its not any of those 3 kinds of places its possible it might fall into the Parralell universe classification of kind of location. • I have to say, should HPL be alive and able to see your depictions of his horrors, I bet he'd ask you to illustrate some of his works for sure!

Love the wiki, keep the faith!
