Rheinhart Kleiner was an early correspondent of H.P. Lovecraft. He inspired Lovecraft to write poetry as well as being the sternest critic of Lovecraft's racial and atheist philosophy. Their correspondence was collected in Letters to Rheinhart Kleiner, a book compiled and edited by S.T. Joshi and David E. Schultz. It was published by Hippocampus Press.

The recipient of the first issue of Lovecraft’s amateur paper, The Conservative, in 1915, Kleiner challenged Lovecraft to reconsider his dogmatic views on race, literature, and society.
